Community Meeting: Wave energy simulation (February 2023)

Hello community,

It’s about time to see each other again. This time the topic is wave energy simulation :ocean::battery:.

MBARI and Open Robotics, on a grant from the Department of Energy, are currently developing a simulation of MBARI’s fielded wave-energy conversion buoy using gz-sim (Garden) and ROS 2 (Humble) in the hopes of drawing from a larger community of controls researchers and students to quickly/safely develop more sophisticated controllers for increased power generation and robustness. Motivation for wave energy systems as well as details about simulating certain components will be presented as well as examples for writing external controllers using the provided interfaces.

Here’s the agenda:

  1. Latest Gazebo news: Addisu Taddese (Intrinsic)
  2. Wave energy simulation: Michael Anderson (MBARI)
  3. Optional: Lighting talks
    • Davis Ogunsina

We opened a slot for short (3 minutes) lighting presentations. If you’re interested in talking about your Gazebo project contact me (caguero AT openrobotics DOT org) and I’ll book your slot.
